Radioactive Waste Sorting and Volume Reduction Solution

Project Background

Radioactive contaminated waste generated by nuclear power plants and nuclear-industry facilities must be sorted, compressed and reduced in volume before transfer to treatment or disposal sites.

Conventional sorting and volume-reduction operations often rely on manual work and semi-automatic auxiliary equipment, increasing personnel exposure risk. Fixed integrated facilities can also make later process upgrades difficult as treatment technologies develop.

Solution Overview

Chengdu South Electronic Instrument’s radioactive waste sorting and volume reduction solution uses a modular architecture. The complete process is divided into four functional modules: feed handling, sorting, compression and drum lid removal/sealing.

Channels and connectors between modules maintain process continuity and system tightness. Each module can be upgraded, replaced or expanded independently, helping customers reduce long-term retrofit and investment costs.

Solution Advantages
Modular Design
The system is divided into feed handling, sorting, volume reduction and lid removal/sealing modules, each of which can be upgraded or expanded independently.
Fully Automated Operation
Automatic feeding, compression and lid handling reduce labor intensity and limit personnel exposure.
Gas and Liquid Collection
Waste gas and wastewater generated during operation are collected centrally for subsequent treatment.
